The 5-day Marangu Route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola” route, is a popular choice for climbers seeking a relatively direct and comfortable ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting at Marangu Gate, the trek moves through the lush rainforest to reach Mandara Hut on the first day. On the second day, hikers continue through moorland to Horombo Hut, where they spend an extra day to acclimatize. The third day involves a steady climb to Kibo Hut, the base camp for the summit attempt. On the fourth day, climbers begin their ascent to Uhuru Peak before dawn, reaching the summit at sunrise. The descent continues back to Horombo Hut for rest, and on the final day, trekkers return to Marangu Gate. The route is known for its hut accommodations and is favored for its shorter duration, though it still demands good physical fitness and acclimatization.
